As a FedEx Contractor, Where Is My Vehicle Fleet Stored?
Thinking about becoming a FedEx contractor? Let’s talk trucks.
Purchasing and maintaining your vehicle fleet is one of the three biggest expenses that come with owning your own FedEx route business—along with buying the routes themselves and paying your delivery drivers and other employees.
But what happens after you buy or take possession of your vehicles? Where do you store them? And you have to rent out space or try to park them at your home or office? These are some common questions we hear from prospective buyers, but luckily FedEx offers a simple solution.
Most contractors park their vehicles at FedEx terminals.
The majority of FedEx route owners store their trucks, step vans, and other vehicles at a nearby FedEx terminal, which means you likely won’t have to pay for vehicle storage. Plus, this makes the most sense, since it’s where the packages are stored that will eventually be loaded onto the trucks and delivered by your drivers.
When you keep your vehicles at the terminal, your drivers can easily scan and load their packages once they arrive at the start of each shift, prior to heading out for their work day.
You can also choose to allow your drivers to store their vehicles at their homes.
Sometimes, it may be easier for your delivery drivers to park their vehicles at home, especially if the truck or van you provide is their primary vehicle. As a contractor, you can decide which option works best for your business, or even decide on a case-by-case basis.
Did you know that trucks and vans are often included in the sale of FedEx routes?
This can alleviate much of the hassle of determining which type of vehicle(s) you need and whether to lease or buy new or used trucks. Just be sure to work with a qualified broker who can help you determine the true value of the vehicles you are getting.
